Introduction

Presently, Meadowood Springs offers two distinct programs: The Speech-Language and Hearing Camp and the P.A.C.E. Family Immersion Camp.

Speech-Language and Hearing Camp

Meadowood Springs Speech and Hearing Camp provides two seven-day Speech-Language and Hearing Overnight Camps and one three-day Speech-Language and Hearing Day Camp for boys and girls who are currently receiving services through an Individual Educational Plan or private services. It is one of the few recognized camp/clinic facilities in the Western United States providing intensive therapy. Therapy is based on the premise that speech is the most human of all man’s behaviors, and that effective speech and language therapy for speech and hearing challenged children will consider the child’s total set of needs and their total environment as part of the rehabilitation task.

The purpose of the camp is to offer concentrated intensive therapy by trained speech pathologists in a recreational setting during the summer months when therapy is generally not available in the schools. The camp atmosphere tends to facilitate learning by removing many of the social and environmental barriers existing in the more formal academic school situations. The intensive therapy and carefully structured environment combine to make this quality program enjoy a high rate of success.

P.A.C.E. Family Immersion Camp

Meadowood Camp, in collaboration with PACE Place of Beaverton, Oregon offers a 4-day and 6-day therapeutic immersion camp to children with autism and their families. This unique family camp is designed to work intensively with up to ten families (parents and children). The family camp is designed to guide families with a child with a diagnosis that affects social learning (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, ADD, ADHD, NVLD, PDD-NOS). Your family will have the opportunity to participate in some traditional camp activities AND get guidance on some of your family's struggles. Families will have an outdoor camp experience in the Blue Mountains of NE Oregon on 143 acres of mountain terrain. Wake up to see the deer and elk wandering through the forest. Spend time in a canoe on Lake Cathy or hike the many trails and experience all that nature has to offer. Relax on the deck of the swimming pools or spend time in "The Hub" working with the many Arts and Craft supplies. Play your favorite board game or play tag in the open meadow. The family camp is appropriate for families with children of all ages and all skill levels with challenges in emotional regulation and communication that impact daily living (e.g., morning routine, chores, family play time, activities in the community).
